June 8, 2016

Manley Board of Trustees meets the first Thursday of the month in the Community Building at 7PM.  The next one is Thursday, July 7th.

***The Village Board is aware of the failed sirens and are currently working on a solution.  Stay tuned to the local TV stations in the event of dangerous weather situations.  Pricing for new sirens is around $20,000 so the board is looking at some grants and to see if something smaller will be acceptable.  Chairman Betty Meyer is getting quotes and a sales rep will brief the Board next week on time frame.

Pillage The Village will take place on Sat., Aug 20, 2016.  Organizing committee meetings are scheduled for June 8th and June 22nd at 7:00 PM if you would like to attend.  If you would like to be a part of the Craft/Vendor show or Flea Market this year, contact Tim Glas (515) 402-7185 or at amsoyscents@outlook.com ASAP!  We will have a flea market, Craft/Vendor Show, Non-profit showcase to go along with our tractor pull, kick ball tourney, city wide garage sales etc.  $25 booth fee for in-town residents.  A motorcycle show and car show are in the beginning planning stages for this event also.  In addition, we are attempting to get the Manley Fire Department to challenge the another fire department(s) to a water fight!  Wondering if any of the other local departments are up to the challenge?  Rumor has it that Murray may be interested!!!   If you are interested in Pillage the Village opportunities, message Tim at email above.  We are also looking for volunteers and community service assistants.  Sign up now to get your hours done!  You can also keep up to date on the Pillage the Village Festival on facebook!  We will  be having a greased watermelon contest for the day also!  A few different age groups!  We are looking for crafters, Direct Sales and Flea Market people.

Congratulations to Kathleen Dillon and Callie Zeorian for graduating from Louisville HS and Elmwood-Murdock HS respectively.  Manley is proud of you!  Also, congratulations and a heartfelt THANK YOU to Leonard Stohlmann in recognition of his retirement from the Manley Fire Department!

Do you need to dig in your yard???  It is a law that you must first call before you dig!!  Also, if you are planning to build, add to, remove, or move a structure, you must talk to Betty Meyer PRIOR to starting the project!  This includes fencing, shed, house, patio, garage and other structures.

Need a place to hold your next meeting, shower or seminar?  The Manley Community Building is for rent!  Downstairs/Kitchen (up to 25 people) is $50.  The whole building is $100.  For more info and to schedule an event, contact Jolene Dalton, Village Clerk at the office.

Do you know that Manley has a facebook page???  Check out all the happenings on social media!

3 of the 5 seats for the Board of Trustees in Manley will be up for vote this fall.  If you would like to run for one of those spots, you are encouraged to spend time at the next few meetings to know what you are running for and the time commitments required.  You can find out how to get your name on the ballot by contacting the Village Clerk.

If your 911 address is not clearly marked on your residence,  you need to get this accomplished immediately.  It is required by Village Ordinance.  If you need assistance in doing this, the Board will help.  Several homes still do not have this done!  Since it is an actual ordinance, you may be held responsible for this non-action!

Mark down Saturday, June 25th on your calendar!  IT’S SPRING CLEANUP TIME IN THE VILLAGE!  Papillion Sanitation donates one large dumpster every year for us.  The board will approved paying for a 2nd dumpster at the June 2nd meeting.  We will not be having a fall cleanup this year!

PLEASE HELP THE EDITOR!

Manley Board of Trustees, Betty Meyer, Grove (Mickey) Dalton, Tim Glas and Dawn Holdorf were joined by Village Clerk, Jolene Dalton, Keep Cass County Beautiful Director – Linda Behrns and two residents, Eric and Jolene for our Spur Cleanup.  This group volunteered there time (approx. 2.25 hrs each) this past week to clean up the Spur.  Thank you to Keep Cass County Beautiful for the financial grant for our volunteerism!

Thank you to Grove (Mickey) Dalton, Trustee and his wife, Jolene Dalton (Village Clerk) for donating picnic tables to the Village for use at the park and to Denise Swenson, Trustee for donating her time cleaning up around the flower beds and signs.

Drive your go-cart, antique tractor, motorcycle, new or classic car, or ride your new bike or even a unicycle.  If you want to walk on stilts as 'Uncle Sam', do cartwheels down the parade route, show off your martial arts skills, or bring your uniformed baseball, softball or soccer team, come on over to Murray and get in line for the parade.  Get your friends at youth or church group to help decorate a truck or flatbed, then pile on the float and get in line!
